The Crippling Power Of Fear In Overcoming Porn Addiction

Porn Addiction /

Did you know that there was an intense underlying feeling of cowardice; the embodiment of fear influencing those being entangled in porn addiction when going through a moment of urge? Have you ever thought about that?

Fear is one of the major stumbling blocks holding so many struggling with porn addiction captive through the realm of defeat and failure.

It means that in your quest to overcome this vice, fear concerning a future without watching porn is something that you will have to deal with due to the fact it has played a major role in your relapses throughout your journey.

Porn Addiction Thrives On Fear

There tends to be a growing feeling of fear gripping porn addicts regarding what will transpire at some point if they were to resist a particular urge all the way through, which is applying lot of pressure on them in a given moment.

This negative feeling stems from the reality that porn urges literally strike addicts at one of the most sensitive points of their lives.

There’s a perceived unpleasant, or desperate reality which they think will be unfolded sooner or later on that they don’t want to be dealing with.

That reality is viewed as something that will inflict them with unbearable mental pain; in other words, they will be tormented if they were to find themselves being entrapped in such reality.

This creates an inclination in the present moment for them to steer clear of such frightening reality as soon as possible.

Fear Leads To Desperation

The questions that tend to be popping up in their head in this type of situation are as followed:

► How will the upcoming moment be like in terms of how I will feel if I don’t do something now to get a relief?

How will I be able to deal with the intense pressuring influence of that particular urge being accumulated continually upon me from moment to moment?

How I am going to feel in that regard?

These individuals literally get stuck in that very moment of urge they find themselves in.

They have become frozen as a result.

There are times, they feel driven to despair.

They just don’t know what to do as a result of the intensity of the pressure going through the roof.

That feeling of fear and despair goes hand in hand with trying to hold back against porn urges.

It may even seem like the more you keep holding back, the more it’s increasing.

Fear Leads To Relapse

Everyone who has been trying to break away from a sinful habit or addiction who ended up relapsing after days or weeks of abstinence is a victim of that exact reality having to do with fear which scared them to death.

The impression is that if they don’t choose to give in now to release the pressure, they will be crushed mentally, emotionally, and physically.

That uncontrollable desire being felt will either brutalize, torture, or demoralize them to the degre that they will be left with no other alternative but to succumb.

This is a big lie that so many have resorted to as the solution to their problems because it provides them what they desperately want now but at the cost of enslaving them even further.

They’ve become unwilling to cross that challenging moment untill making it to the other side safe and sound.

They don’t want to resist a particular urge by relying on God untill conquering it.

All they want to do is to succumb just to release the pressure.

They have that erroneous impression that it will get worse and worse if they don’t do it.

Therefore, their deliverance is to indulge in to make that pressure go away as quickly as possible because they perceive it as being too much for them to handle.

Instant Relief Is The Root Of Fear

One thing that you need to grasp is that the dominant tendency people have when they are under intense pressure through a moment of urge is to make that unpleasant feeling associated with the pressure being applied to their flesh go away immediately.

They want to substitute it with something that can make them feel good and happy.

The most deceptive aspect about the tendency to indulge in is that people do get a quick respite when doing so, although temporarily.

The strange feeling of discomfort and uneasiness which they are experiencing does go away immediately upon doing so.

But this is exactly what gets to solidify that vicious habit loop.

The relief is purely physical, emotional, or sensational, but not morally or spiritually.

What usually comes thereafter are guilt, shame, regret, frustration, depression, and so on.

The Bottom Line

The flesh will always make you feel that there are dreadful consequences to face if you don’t act in accordance with what it needs you to do.

Your fear has been based on the idea that the flesh will retaliate against you harshly.

It will bombard you with all types of uncontrollable pressure that you will be incapable of enduring if you don’t give your flesh what it needs which is that instant gratification.

That’s why fear is nothing more than your own flesh intimidating you to act out accordingly.
