We’re currently living in a time and age where so many individuals simply choose to live their lives as people who’re totally careless about the fact that they will spend their eternity somewhere. To put it differently, they just want to live their lives however they like regardless of what God says in His Word, along with the extreme implications that may come along with their horrible choices.
The Word of God and all the marvelous blessings found within are readily available for them and for their own sake, but they have deliberately chosen not to heed the warnings found within because that book is in direct contradiction with what they want to do.
Even worse, they want to get rid of it. They don’t want that book to be anywhere in their lives and society. People are so blinded by sin and deception of the enemy to the extent that they love sin which penalty is death far more than they love their own creator who deserves eternal praise.
Therefore, they cannot truly love themselves and understand how precious their soul is in the sight of God unless they love Him. The truth is that if you’re not in Christ, you’re destroying your own soul through sinful living.
People Twisted Attitudes
If you listen closely to their sayings, one thing that is very common is this, “It’s all about me, what I want, what makes me happy, what makes me feel good, what I need, what is right in my own eyes, what can bring me pleasure, what can satisfy me, and so forth.” Humanly speaking, this should not take anyone by surprise at all since it’s quite natural or normal for the carnal man to act, behave, and think like that.
However, from a purely Biblical perspective, this type of selfishness, arrogance, pride, or mindset is repugnant unto God. And this is the reason why God can’t deal with anyone who holds such sinful attitudes and behaviors. So just for the sake of temporary pleasure, acceptance, fame, and money people are willing to compromise their own self-image, self-worth, character, and even their own eternity by engaging in all types of inconceivable sins.
People have a tendency to turn to sinful behaviors in order to try to fill up a huge void within themselves that cannot be filled by anything else other than Jesus. You just cannot satisfy yourself with anything that God didn’t make you to satisfy yourself with. Instead, sin will literally dig that gaping hole found in your soul deeper and deeper. Consequently, you’ll find yourself craving for more and more of the same things you’ve been practicing all along until you become totally enslaved.
What Sin is All About?
Sin is described in the Bible as transgression of the law of God (1 John 3:4), and rebellion against God (Deuteronomy 9:7, Joshua 1:18). When we are sinning against God, what we are really telling Him is that His divine laws are not relevant to us. We’ll simply do what we want, what we think is right in our own eyes irrespective of what He says in His written Word.
We may not express that openly, but that’s precisely what we express with our sinful attitudes toward God. Moreover, sin is very selfish and deceptive by nature. As a result, when people want to sin, it becomes all about them. Even worse, they don’t have any problems at all to make use of other people by taking advantage of them to satisfy themselves. They don’t want to take into consideration how people close to them or those around them can be affected deeply by their sinful lifestyles.
The reality is that, sin always brings consequences. However, it is true that you may not experience the physical consequences yet, but the spiritual consequences are always present. The Bible gives that stern warning in (Romans 6:23) by stating, “For the wages of sin is death, but the gift of God is eternal life in Christ Jesus Our Lord.” This simply means sin will always bring spiritual death to the participant. In lot of cases, consequences correct people much better than admonitions.
Is it Possible For Someone to Live a Life Above Sin?
The answer to that question is very simple “yes”. In fact, Jesus came and laid down His life in order to set us free from sin by destroying the power of sin, so that we could live our lives for Him alone through sanctification and consecration. Keep that in mind, living a life free from sin doesn’t have anything to do with us because it’s impossible for us to do that in our own human ability as a result of our fallen nature. Living a life above sin is all about what God is able and willing to do within us through the indwelling of His Spirit. With this in mind, overcoming sin is not about us trying harder and harder, but about proper submission to Jesus’ power and control.
The good news is that God has graciously made it possible through Christ by giving those who believe in His name His Spirit to indwell them. The role of the Holy Spirit in our lives is to empower us, guide us, help us, teach us, give us a new heart and a new disposition to serve God wholeheartedly, and to transform us day by day to become more and more like Jesus.
Furthermore, the role of the Holy Spirit is to enable us to live a completely liberated, redeemed, fulfilled, a purposeful and fruitful life in Christ. This in fact demonstrates how God is willing to help us as human in that regard, isn’t it? As you may already know, when dealing with God there is a level of personal responsibility we must assume ourselves. Our choices will determine whether or not we’ll be able to live this kind of life, but God is willing to help us doing so.
The Grace of God
God has already provided everything necessary by grace through Christ, such as salvation, forgiveness of sin, and the power to overcome sin. Our responsibility is to come out of our human or sinful ways to His ways, so that we can live the kind of life that He desires for us to live. God is fully committed to help us achieving that through the indwelling of the Holy Spirit who is our helper, advocate, teacher, comforter, senior partner, and constant companion.
While our sin can alienate and separate us from a holy and righteous God eternally, yet His grace and love are infinitely greater and extend beyond our sins. God promises us in (1 John 1:9) that “If we confess our sins, He is faithful and just and will forgive us our sins and purify us from all unrighteousness.” God is a loving, gracious, merciful, compassionate, and forgiving God. Besides, He even went to the extreme to express His sacrificial and unconditional love for us by sending His only Son to die on the cross to save us from the penalty of sin, which is death and hell. Are you willing to live your life out of gratitude for Someone who gave His life for you?
